Manifest Your Future, Visualisation and The ‘Law of Attraction’
Let me put this out there for readers right off the bat; I am not a fan of what the word manifest has become.
I think a lot of the ideas being bandied about with regard to ‘vibrational energy’, and ‘manifesting money’ are complete bollocks. (Sorry if that’s not the take you were looking for, just trying to keep it real here at ‘The Pad‘!).
You do not get something just by thinking about it. It doesn’t matter how many vision boards you have created or whether you have ‘shifted your expectation because you attract what you believe about hard enough’.
Sitting on your arse and wishing for your life’s desires to happen is not how a plan works.
It is not how anything works.
Positive thinking is great; If affirmations and visualising your future helps you to focus and tune in on what you want, more power to your elbow.
But you know what is better than positive thinking?
Positive doing.
When your life plan is to own a boat
I was once told a story about a man who desperately wanted his own boat. He knew, however, that he would never be able to afford one.
This didn’t stop him from telling everyone, at every opportunity that this was his dream.
As it was, a friend of a friend had another friend who needed someone to ‘boat sit for them, and the hero of our tale was suggested.
From this, he was able to get experience and a reputation for being a trustworthy boat sitter.
He was offered other jobs looking after other boats until he was finally offered a sweet gig.
This job involved sailing someone’s boat from the Greek island it was currently docked in, to the south of France where the owners were holidaying.
He became great friends with the elderly couple who owned the boat and often helped them out with repairs and modernisations.
When the old couple eventually died, the man was left the boat in their will. While this is a sad way to come into any property, the fact is, if he had never mentioned his desire to anyone the odds of his achieving it would have been practically zero.
Why manifesting isn’t enough
As a fairly sceptical person -albeit a positive and cheerful one – I have issues with any process that sells itself on its simplicity, while also requiring a person to pay to learn it.
Most of the YouTube channels I watch are usually people calling out ‘fake guru’ sorts, or ‘contrepuners’. They sell themselves as ‘Wellness’ or ‘Meditative’ coaches (sell being the operative word as they always have a course or an ‘inner circle’ for you to join…for a price’)
And that price always ends with a 7!
What you believe shapes your reality. That is not in question.
If you believe you are fat and useless then there is no reason for you to deny yourself another cake because you’re fat and useless, right?
If your dream is to teach abroad you do not sit and dream about it. You complete a teaching course, you learn a 2nd language, you save up the money you will need.
Results are not guaranteed, but you are certainly in a better position; When you put the effort in the odds are more likely to be in your favour.
Why should destiny get the credit for your hard work?
Be brave enough to share your passion
There are elements of manifesting that I can totally vibe with.
I meditate every morning; take time to centre myself to start my day off. But do I believe everything I dream of will appear if I visualise hard enough? Of course not.
There will always be work involved.
It may possibly require a bit of networking and sometimes there may be an element of luck; being in the right place at the right time.
Whatever it needs, you will have to put yourself out there, and that can be scary.
People are often loathe to share their dreams as they fear ridicule; they worry that people won’t share the vision, or believe them capable of it.
How many deep-seated desires have faded because people were unwilling to speak them out to the universe? What is your passion? Have you told anyone?
Be ambitious
The more ambitious the ‘dream’ you hope to visualise is, the more likely you are to have your share of nay-sayers. Not everyone is going to get it.
In fact, it is often family and friends that can be your worst detractors, not necessarily out of malice, but because they worry that you will be disappointed if your plan fails.
If the worst-case scenario is that you end up not having something you currently don’t have anyway, where is the loss?
Anyone who mocks your vision, or who is unable to support you, even if they personally don’t agree with your plans, is not someone that is going to help you. You need to find your ‘tribe’; a group of supporters who will encourage and bolster you.
These are the people who will get you to where you need to be.
Where are they?
They may be current acquaintances, they may be online friends or family. Maybe you will have to go out and seek these people yourself. But the most important thing to equip yourself with is a plan.
Over to you:
What are your thoughts on being able to manifest your future through positive thoughts?
Are you more of a thinker, or a doer?
Do you have a vision for your future? Perhaps it is time to grab a pad and start writing one?
