It is great to be able to title a post – task completed !
Back in December, I wrote a 2020 focus list. In this, I mentioned the items from the Kettle list, the 40 x40 list, and the Bristol list that I intended working on this year.
It is with huge pride and no small amount of excitement that I can claim to have ticked off one of the kettle list tasks today. Not one of those cumulative ones either. I have fully completed a whole task.
Today, I passed my driving test!
One task down…
On the Focus list, I noted that It had been a year since I started my lessons. I had every intention of passing it this year. No matter how many tests it took.
The truth be known, I should have taken it before Christmas. However, just before my test date, my driving instructor’s car died. It took him a few weeks to replace it, so I had to postpone my test until January 9th. However, after missing so many lessons I got cold feet and put it off again.
Two for joy…
Today was the day. It got off to a good start. I had a nice tester, who actually spoke to me on the way round and made me feel a lot more relaxed. I was almost disappointed when my manoeuvre was ‘driving forward into a parking space’. Especially after honing my parallel parking skills, but I wasn’t going to argue.
For those who don’t know, the UK test involves having to do one of 3 manoeuvres: parallel parking (which my Mum still struggles with), reversing into a parking space, which I practised intensively, and driving forward into a parking space. As I did my manoeuvre in a garden centre car park 10 minutes in, I knew I was safe for the rest of the test.
I felt very relaxed driving along, and while not at all superstitious, I took the two magpies sitting on the road in front of me as a sign. Even if I had not passed, I felt I did well and would have been more than ready to put in for another test straight away.
A banging stop
Apparently, the sign of a good ’emergency stop’ is that everything on the back seat falls off into the footwell. Well, according to the tester!
He told me afterwards that mine was one of the best he had seen. At least if a random dog runs out in front of me in the street I should be able to avoid hitting him; ‘banging emergency stop’ was his exact choice of words!
It seems odd that last week I was having lessons, and now I am allowed out on my own. Hannah and I are considering going halves on a little ‘run-a-round’ – Hannah passed her test last month – but for now, I am just going to enjoy regaining my Tuesdays evenings and being able to save £25 per week on lesson costs!
Driving forward
Having completed a kettle List task this early in the year is very encouraging. I have now had another look through to see what else I can be working on. My Ebook is going great guns if I can stop overthinking things and just get on with writing it. The same could be said of my TEFL coursework that I want to be finished this month.
The weight goal from the 40 x 40 list certainly needs work. My diet is terrible at the moment, but I still aim to lose 1 stone this year. It is something I can start on, as well as the 365 photo task, which I keep ruining by forgetting to take them!
From the Bristol list, this year the Upfest street art festival promises to be very interesting, and it will be a great opportunity for me to get back into taking street art photos.
